Top-Level Filters

Redesigned Amplitude Experiments' top-level filters so users could more easily find important experiments

Challenges

  • Lacked clear affordance, so users didn't know the outcome of engaging

  • Didn't follow familiar filtering patterns from elsewhere in Amplitude

  • Lacked visual hierarchy, making them hard to scan

Solution

  • Introduced hover interactions to clarify the outcome of engaging

  • Aligned with familiar filtering patterns from Amplitude Hubs

  • Refined visual hierarchy with design system components

  • Removed the pie chart, completed dropdown, and requires attention counter that were underutilized and overly complex

Results

  • Top-level filter usage increased 38%, with weekly active usage increasing 50%

  • Individual filter usage increased for "In Progress" (2x), "Completed" (3x), and "Reached Stat Sig" (+70%)

  • Custom filter usage held steady, confirming the redesign improved discoverability without disrupting existing workflows
